William S. Rodgers “Bill”, age 84, passed away surrounded by his family on September 2, 2024. Beloved husband of Judith A. Rodgers for 62 years. Proud father of 3 sons; Bill (Mary), Brad (Susan) and Bryan (Andrea). Loving grandfather of Alan, Jake (Dana), Austin, Avery, Jon (McKayla), Adam (Amy), Blake (Sam), Anthony (Summer) and Alyssa. Brother of Britt (Joanne) Rodgers and Carolyn Kittrell. Bill also leaves 8 great children and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Rebecca Rodgers.
Bill was born December 8, 1939 in Boyce Virginia and graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton VA. On November 1957 he joined the United States Air Force and was in the Air Force Military Police stationed at Elmendorf US Air Force Base in Alaska and Boiling US Air Force in Washington DC. Bill also participated in the Honor Guard as well as intermural football for the US Air Force. He met Judith Root in Anchorage, AK and they married at Elmendorf Air Force base on September 1, 1962. After moving to Michigan, Bill was hired at General Motors, Flint Assembly, eventually retiring from GM-Truck and Bus in 1993. Throughout the years, Bill was a Boy Scout Master for Troop 212, was a member of Fenton Art Guild and was famous for his hand painted Water colors and Christmas cards. As an avid history buff and collector of war memorabilia, Bill enjoyed building models of airplanes and ships. He had his private pilots license and flew Cessnas and gliders. After retirement Bill worked at VGs in Fenton in the seafood/meat Dept.
Special thanks to the many close family and friends and dear neighbors for all their kindness.
Bill will be interred with military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date.
