In Loving Memory of Vincent Mikiel, January 27, 1944 – March 23, 2022. Our Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather, age 78 of Warren, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. He was the only child of John Francis Mikiel and Dorothy Ethel Mikiel, who raised him as a Roman Catholic. Vince is survived by his ever-loving wife, Barbara J. Peeples-Mikiel, children Thomas Mikiel, Suzan Mikiel, and Erik Mikiel and Stepdaughter Iohla D. Conway and her husband Shawn Conway, their children William Mikiel Conway and Alora Conway – the grandchildren of Vince and Barbara. He was predeceased by his grandson, Hazen Francis Kennedy. Vince graduated from Assumption College School in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 1962. Vince received his undergraduate degree in 1966 and graduate degree in 1976, both from the University of Detroit, Detroit, Michigan. Vince was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1995 – active and reservist. He graduated from the Command and General Staff College in 1985 and left military service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (LTC). Vince was Materials Manager for the City of Detroit –Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) for over 30 years. He retired from DWSD and he and Barbara relocated from Detroit, Michigan to Warren, Michigan where when he got tired of Barbara complaining about not having dinner ready when she got home from work (smile my Love), he went to work for the City of Warren, as its Purchasing Agent and retired, for good, in mid-2000. Vince loved life and tried to live it the best he knew how. He enjoyed wood working and loved photography. He loved learning new things, most of all languages and managed to speak six. He enjoyed cooking Asian food. He loved to travel and learn about diverse cultures and always tried to immerse himself in that culture – be it language, food or their customs and there was no one he couldn’t strike up a conversation with to talk about almost anything, no matter who they were or language they spoke. He tried his best to celebrate life.
God looked around His garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
So, He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, “Peace be thine.”
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
I’ve Lived Every Love Song with You. With All My Love.
Barbara.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 3rd, from 1pm until the time of his funeral service at 3pm, at the D.S. Temrowski and Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd., in Warren.
