Sylvia (Petroff) Thornton

Sylvia Thornton, age 84, passed away on February 28, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Roger. Dear mother of Scott (Tami), Craig (Stephanie) and Eric (Michelle). Loving Nana My Nana of Jacob, Jessica (Peter) Ginter, Rhea, Travis, Jace and Luke. Soon to be great grandma of Riley Ginter, due in March. Sister of Tom Petroff. Sylvia was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and U of M football. But most of all, she loved watching her kids and grandkids play their sports. She never missed a single game of her boy’s college games and attended and cheered for any of the grandchildren’s games she could. Sylvia never met a stranger and was a true people person. In her later years she worked at Macy’s Department Store and enjoyed her social time there. Sylvia’s zest for life and welcoming personality will be greatly missed.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, March 4, 11am at St Augustine Catholic Church, 6481 Faussett Road, Howell. Friends may visit beginning at 10am. A light meal and refreshments will be served after mass. Feel free to wear a Detroit Tigers, U of M or your favorite sports team gear. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Humane Society.
