A Life of Love and Resilience
Steve Allen Westphal was born on September 25, 1951, to Rosemay Musch. He was later proud to be adopted by his father Fred C Westphal. Surrounded by his family, Steve transitioned to be with our Lord on June 22, 2025, due to septic shock following an operation to remove stomach cancer.
Steve leaves behind his devoted wife Cynthia, his son Steve (Felicia) Westphal, daughters Evette (Bryan) Dietrich, Michelle Gomez, and stepsons Blake (Jessica) Roberts, Kam Grant (Cassie) Roberts, stepdaughter Alicia (James) Chesney, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 1 great step grandson and over 20 nieces and nephews. Also left to grieve his loss are his mother-in-law Nikki Roman and sisters in law Nicole Hunter and Charmain Wells. The mother of his children, Elizabeth Vela, also survives him.
Steve was blessed with many maternal siblings who were also his best friends, including Fred, Bob (Dorthy), Joan (Ron) Vickers, Chris (Barb), John (Pam), Tanya (Selby) Risner, and the late Joseph (Judy) Wise. Steve was proud to be a founding member of the Westphal Family Car Club.
In 2018, with the use of commercial DNA, Steve was thrilled to learn his bio-father was Anthony Poma and that he had half siblings. Steve proudly embraced his Italian heritage and sought to learn all he could about his paternal family.
Steve was a proud Howell High School graduate, class of 1969. After high school Steve was drafted into the Army during Vietnam and served for two years. He later enlisted as a full-time Air Reserve Technician (ART) and worked as a jet fuel mechanic until his retirement from the 940th Air Refueling Wing in 2002. While working and raising his family Steve also earned his associate degree at Cosumnes River College in California.
Steve enjoyed all aspects of vintage cars, all types of firearms, flying drones, being “the lawn mower man”, writing skits and making YouTube videos. He adored his family and was always looking forward to a new adventure.
Per his wishes, Steve was cremated with a memorial gathering of close family to follow in July.
