Rickie Glenn “The Running Man” Woodring, age 62, died November 30, 2021 at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc. Rickie was a twin and was born in Flint, Michigan on July 17, 1959. He grew up in Grand Blanc, Michigan and eventually lived in Swartz Creek.
While out running, in an act of kindness, he stopped to help a stranger in need. Rickie was then struck by a car, and because of the severity of his brain injury, God called him home on November 30, 2021.
Rickie was a Veteran of the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division. He was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany.
Rickie was Christian man who loved to serve the Lord. He was a member of the Miracle City Ministries. He lived in a cabin on the property where he could keep the grounds maintained and the church secured. He was an usher and grew a beautiful vegetable garden to help feed the hungry.
Rickie was a member of the Grateful Runners and was a lifelong marathon runner. He received many trophies, awards and medals. He was the 146th person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for completing 1,000 miles per year for the past 5 years.
Rickie touched so many lives. He was very generous, even when he didn’t have much to give, he still gave. Rickie’s first passion in life was running. He also loved going to concerts and attending Detroit Tigers games. Rickie was very humorous, always making us laugh. He lived a humble lifestyle and appreciated the smaller things in life.
Surviving are his siblings, Vickie(Joe) Skiba of Houghton Lake, Phyllis Croteau of Flint, Carol Fulghum of Holly, and Rev. Clavin(Barb) Woodring. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Irene Woodring; and brothers, Michael, James, and Johney.
There will be a Celebration of Rickie’s Life on December 10th, at 2pm, at Miracle City Ministries,4380 Grand Blanc Road, Swartz Creek, MI. It will be Live Streamed as well. Robbi and James Shumaker will officiate.
Burial will take place in the spring at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
Even though cremation has taken place, we know our Lord and Savior was waiting with open arms, and said “Well done good and faithful servant.
