Richard Downie Obituary

Richard Edwin Downie, age 71, passed away on January 5, 2021. Rich was born in Alpena, Michigan on July 26, 1949, the son of John & Clara Downie. He was the first of 7 children. The family moved to Rankin in 1966, where he graduated from Ainsworth High School. After High School, Rich went on to serve in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge he married Shirley Edwards and secured employment with General Motors Metal Center. He worked there until retirement. Rich enjoyed football and family time. He was always good for a laugh. A special thank you to Wellbridge of Fenton for their loving care-They are the very best. Richard is survived by his daughter, Diana Mills; granddaughters, Natalie Mills and Sydney Mills; brothers and sisters, John Downie, Jerry (Sheri) Downie, Robert (Brenda) Downie, Linda Hinkley, Joanne (Milton) Keene and Stephania (Doug) Cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and wife Shirley. Interment and Veteran’s Honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
