Phillip E. Runyon “Pete”, age 57, passed away surrounded by his family on March 10, 2021. Beloved husband of Lynn for 33 years. Dear father of Trevor Dean (Paula) Runyon, Cassidy Runyon and Molly Octavia (Chris Caviness) Runyon. Loving grandpa of Kendall Dean and Abbey Jean. Nephew of Vickie Hatfield (Larry) Sykes, Patsy Runyon (Jim) Bunn, Pat Stump (Charles) Runyon, Shelia Runyon (Danny), Douglas “Mac” (Phyllis) Runyon, Stirl (Judy) Hatfield and Ballard “Jody” (Carol) Hatfield. Cousin of Susan Hatfield, Runyon Kennedy, Wendy Runyon, Paul Hatfield, Doug Hatfield, Robbie Hatfield Bender, Amy Sykes Cox, Phillip Hatfield Bender, Tim Hatfield, Sherry Hatfield Dotson, Jamie Sykes, Kim Runyon Therrian, Tracy Runyon, David Bunn, Debbie Bunn, Brenda Wells, Linda Runyon Brigman, Larry Runyon, Ricky Runyon, Gary Runyon, Cynthia Runyon and Denise Runyon Muldrow. Pete also leaves his special bird hunting dog, a German Wirehair named Helga and many dear friends. Pete is predeceased by his parents; Paul and Lynda (nee: Hatfield) Runyon, grandparents; Phillip & Octavia (nee: Smith) Hatfield and Ernest & Stella (nee: Smith) Runyon; as well as several aunts and uncles. Pete was born in the West Virginia Mountains, a great nephew to the famous Hatfield family of the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s. He graduated from Randleman High School in North Carolina and went on to serve our country in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger. He then attended Western Kentucky University. Pete met and married the love of his life, Lynn (nee: Hullhorst), together they raised 3 children and moved from state to state for Pete’s job as a Headquarter Executive for the postal service. Pete was an avid bird hunter and spent many years hunting the Great Bend in Kansas. He was a true outdoorsman and loved to fish, kayak and enjoy the land. He spent many wonderful times traveling in the RV with Lynn to visit their children and grandchildren. Pete will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A full Veteran’s committal service will be held at a later date at the Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery in Hopkinsville, KY.
