Patricia Wilkes Obituary

With heavy hearts we share the unexpected passing of Patricia Annette Wilkes—a loving mother, devoted sister, joyful grandmother and great-grandmother, and loyal friend. She left this world peacefully on September 21st in Royal Oak, Michigan, surrounded by her children after a brief illness.

Patricia will be remembered for her spunky charm, her generous heart, and her final act of grace—becoming an organ donor and giving the gift of life to another. Her faith was unwavering, and many find comfort knowing she is now held in the arms of the Lord.

Born on July 2, 1960, in Adrian, Michigan to Winston and Judith Miller, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Wilkes, and her parents. She is survived by her five children—Carrie, Matt, Tonya, Paula, and Katie—along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her four siblings: Deanna, Robert, Vivian, and Michael, with whom she shared a lifetime of laughter, loyalty, and late-night phone calls. She also loved Maggie, the dog she and Mark raised from a puppy. She often serenaded her with goofy songs.

Her children carry vivid visions of their mother in sun dresses and sparkly sandals doing her silly dances. They remember special birthday meals, cookouts at local parks, Chinese dinners, camping trips, beach glass hunts in Port Huron, town pool visits, and cheering from the sidelines at sporting events with unmatched enthusiasm. She made each child feel special, often through traditions like annual trips to the theatre to see The Nutcracker. She had countless quirky interests—jumping spiders among them—that made her uniquely her.

With her grandchildren, Patricia enjoyed moments like Queen singalongs and puddle-stomping camping trips.

Recently, she enjoyed feeding birds, listening to Led Zeppelin, watching the Red Wings and Detroit Tigers, and shopping either at the store or her sister’s closet for items she wanted only for her collection.

Her compassion ran deep. Whether through church, work, or friendship, she helped countless women navigate motherhood with empathy and humor. In her healthcare career, she received heartfelt letters from patients and families who felt truly seen and cared for.

Patricia’s legacy is one of joy, generosity, and fierce love. Her memory will live on in the stories we tell, the songs we sing, and the nicknames we pass down. A memorial lunch will be held at a later date to celebrate her life.
