Mark William Periard passed away on Monday, November 17 th at the age of 65.
Mark had many nicknames – Peter Popular, Malibu Mark, Markie and many others that probably shouldn’t be written down. He was a career brick mason, and while his favorite place
in the world was his cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi was becoming a close second after spending several winters there. If there is any peace in his loss, it’s that he left this earth doing the thing he loved most – deer hunting in the U.P. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He could get lost telling you stories about deer he’d harvested (especially the “Giant”) or fish he’d caught. As much as Mark loved the woods, he loved his friends and family more. It was impossible to spend a day with Mark without hearing his phone ring out the University of Michigan fight song because a buddy was calling to catch up or ask him out for beers. He spent the weekends – and many week nights – connecting with his friends, many of whom were lifelong. He was part of a “gang” of friends who had become family, and he cherished those friendships deeply, along with so many others. While he was a great friend, he was also the best dad and grandpa in the world, loving his family endlessly not only through his words, but his actions. Mark was preceded in death by his wife, Maria (Mary) Periard; his parents, Gladys and Billy Periard; his sister, Mary Lee Periard; and his in-laws Liliana and Carlo Isopi. He is survived by his daughter Liana (Wiliam) Vultaggio, grandson Liam Vultaggio, sister-in-law Michelle Isopi, and many cherished friends and family. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 25th from 4-8pm at the Oakland County Sportsmen’s Club in Clarkston. There will be a buffet dinner and an open bar to enjoy as we share memories of Mark. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a walk in the woods this fall (in search of a deer, if that’s your style), grab a fishing pole and head to your nearest lake this spring, or enjoy a crawfish boil in honor of Mark.
