On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Lisa Ann Gilmer (Evans), peacefully passed away surrounded by family after losing her courageously and privately fought battle with stage four ovarian cancer.
Lisa was born on November 5, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan to Dawn and Russell Evans. She was born and raised in Detroit, a 1980 graduate of St. Agatha High School. Lisa and her husband, Alan, eventually left the big city and landed in Linden, MI. Lisa worked a few different jobs, but her proudest career was raising her two children, Kelsy and Nathan. Throughout her entire life, Lisa had a love for the outdoors. From hiking through the woods and minibike riding while her parents built the family cabin, to later sharing the cabin and camping adventures with her own family and friends. Nature was her happy place. She loved sharing these things with the people she loved. Plenty of laughs were shared on river floats down the Ausable River and around the bonfire pit throughout the years. In most recent years, Lisa enjoyed spending time with her closest loved ones. She was truly ready for any excuse to gather and laugh with her people. Lisa was always ready for the next adventure and was always ready to plan the next getaway. Some of her favorites included road trips to the mountains and beaches of North Carolina with her husband and countless trips to the family cabin and the beaches of Lake Huron. Some of her happiest times were adventures to the shores of Lake Superior to go rock hunting. Sometimes, those Lake Superior trips were just her and Al, and others included the kids, her cousin, and her best friend.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Russel and Dawn Evans, her sister, Lynn Peters, brothers-in-law Jack Peters and Frazer Bartel, sister-in-law Beverly Kelley, and nephews Dustin Wing and Lee Bartel. She is survived by many loving family members including her husband, Alan Gilmer, daughter, Kelsy Gilmer, and son, Nathan Gilmer. She leaves behind many other family members and a couple of close friends who were always considered family to Lisa.
Per Lisa’s request, instead of a funeral service, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 25th from 1pm to 5pm at Linden Community Center, 105 Mill St, Linden, MI 48451.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to a cancer charity of your choice or to The Devoted Barn in Lisa’s name
