John Russell Moore, age 75, of Waterford, MI, died peacefully among close family on March 10, 2024.
John was born to Russell and Freida Moore on April 10, 1948. He graduated from Waterford Township High School in 1966 and went on to proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, John was hired in at General Motors and eventually retired after 38 years. He celebrated 12 years of sobriety and was an active and supportive member of the Oakland County Alano Club. “Poppa” John was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather. John will always be remembered for his stubbornness, endless love for his family and was always there for anyone who needed him. He taught us the importance of being tough, but kind and understanding when it mattered. He really was the toughest guy with the softest heart. We will think of him in heaven sporting his leather jacket and boots, U.S. Army Veteran Hat and riding his motorcycle on sunny days.
John is survived by his two daughters Carrie (David) Postal and Jennifer Moore; seven grandchildren Tobin Moore, Tyler Moore, Ashley (Dylan) Ihrke, Riley Peterson, Lindsay Postal, Joshua Postal, Allison Postal; two great-grandchildren Nicholas and Mason Ihrke. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Michael Moore; parents, Russell & Freida and his brother, Tom Moore.
The celebration of life will be held on March 23rd, 2024 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Oakland County Alano Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oakland County Alano Club, Tunnels to Towers, or Wounded Warriors. Interment & Veteran honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Monday, March 18, 10:30am.
