On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, JoAnn Elaine Pierce, 91, passed away with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, JoAnn enjoyed a simple life. She loved spending time with family and friends. She was kindhearted and a gentle soul. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert D. Pierce and her siblings John Eddie Hughes and Jeanette Frey. JoAnn is survived by her four children: Susan (Dennis) Cox, Mark Pierce, Brad Pierce, and Brian (Mary) Pierce. Grandchildren: John Cox, Ben (Chelsea) Cox, Tyler Pierce, Chelsy Pierce, Peter Cox, Dylan (Ann Marie) Pierce, and Breanna Pierce. Greatgrandchildren: Kendra, Kohen, Kai, Flynn, and Remy. In addition, relatives: brother-in-law, George (Jill) Pierce, and sister-in-law’s Carolyn Petrie and Margaret Hughes.
JoAnn was born in Ann Arbor, MI in 1931, daughter to the late John and Ruth Hughes. Raised in Jonesville, Michigan where she graduated high school in 1949. In her hometown she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Pierce and they married in 1950. She was a proud housewife and mother. JoAnn and Bob lived in E. Lansing, Holt, and Bonita Springs, Florida. Following Bob’s death in 2012, JoAnn moved back to Michigan to be close to family and resided in Fenton.
JoAnn was a huge fan of the television show Jeopardy. She rarely missed the program, and often recorded the show to playback later. She loved playing cards and was an avid reader. JoAnn enjoyed cooking and planning wholesome meals for her family. In her younger days she played tennis, and golf, where she experienced two holes in one!
A memorial service, celebration of life is being planned by the family tentatively for Spring/Summer 2023 in Jonesville, Michigan.
