Jerry Edwards Obituary

Jerry B Edwards, age 74, died November 11, 2020 at his home in Fenton.  Surviving are his children Kimberlie(Jeff) Lepczynski and Aaron(Suzanne) Edwards; many super grandchildren and great-grandchildren; half brothers, Bill(Golda) Edwards, Nate(Mary) Edwards, and Tracy(Kristie) Edwards.  As well as loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by parents William and Betty, and brother’s Terry and Chris. While quite an avid traveler, Jerry loved the Michigan area making it his place of residence after graduating from Flint Southwestern High School ‘64 and General Motors Institute as an engineer.  Being the middle of two brothers spurred him into becoming an industrious worker.   He held many odd jobs from the 8th grade on finding a real work family with General Motors, retiring after 38 years from GM Proving Grounds saying “I grew up, grew old, and retired with many of my coworkers as lifelong friends.”  Jerry was married to his childhood sweetheart, Bonnie Jean Shockley for 40 years.  Together they were fortunate to adopt two great kids, Kim and Aaron.  Watching the family grow and expand (grandchildren Mya and Mario) became a big part of later life.  As a family many hobbies and sports were important including snow skiing, ice skating, roller blading, camping, basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf, ping pong, biking, hunting, weight lifting, all water sports especially water skiing, scuba diving, and fishing.  A true tinker he further enjoyed  home remodeling, rebuilding old cars & boats, reading, and keeping charts and graphs.  An obvious nerd in his words.  Life brings many unforeseen changes and a divorce from his wife and their extended family were significantly difficult. Developing health issues included lymphoma and recently ALS.  At this time he was reintroduced to a childhood classmate, Barbara Church (Haines) pursuing a deep and loving relationship.  Horizons expanded meeting new friends at Outdoor Resorts in the Keys, at Fenton Singles,  Genesee Valley Tennis courts and Rollhaven.  Life again had purpose and many trips were embarked upon.  Throughout life he enjoyed being on the lakes, oceans, and rivers always wanting to know what was around the next bend. Visitation will be Monday, 11:00am until 3:00pm at the Temrowski Family Funeral Home, 500 Main Street, Fenton.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the donors favorite charity in Jerry's name.
