Gerald Whitten Obituary

Gerald “Jer” Whitten was born on July 29, 1943, and passed away peacefully at the age of 82.

Jer was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Ruth L. Whitten, and his brothers, Terry and Mike.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Ann; his children, Mark (Lynette), Karen (Jerry) Edwards, Dan (Jamie), John (Elizabeth), and Jeff (Tina); 20 grandchildren; and 6 great‑grandchildren. He is also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jer owned and operated Linden Lumber from 1979 to 2008. It was more than just a business to him—he loved the work, the people, and being part of the community, and he built many lasting friendships along the way.

He was known for his quiet strength and steady presence, and he proudly celebrated more than 40 years of sobriety. One of Jer’s favorite sayings was “Acceptance is the answer,” a phrase that truly reflected how he lived his life. He loved meaningful, one‑on‑one conversations and had a way of making people feel comfortable and listened to.

Jer enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially golfing at Spring Meadows Golf Club. He also took great pride in his lawn and simply being outside. His front porch was one of his favorite spots and he could often
be found there with a book in hand.

More than anything, Jer loved his family. Being a husband, dad, grandpa, and great‑grandpa brought him his greatest joy, and he treasured the time spent making memories together. He will be remembered for his steady kindness, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family.

A small, private service will be held in June.
