Eric W. Eichler, age 52, passed away at home surrounded by those he loved, on May 21, 2021. Born in Detroit on May 1, 1969, Eric attended various special needs programs, eventually graduating from Elmer Knopf learning center in Flint. For many years, Eric lived at Spring Meadows group home in Linden, until he moved back to his parents’ home in Fenton after his diagnosis with bone marrow cancer. Eric’s greatest joy was to be with his family; his mom and dad, Karen and Larry Eichler; his sister, Laurie (Rodney) Stiers; brother, Michael Eichler and nephews, Dustan Eichler, Jensen Stiers and Karsten Stiers. Eric always carried his portable radio, his pocket full of pictures featuring family, friends, expired gift cards and magazine cutouts, his trusty chain and his “Uncle Gary” blanket. Eric loved to sing along enthusiastically to whatever song was playing from Pat Benatar to Puccini. Eric’s bright spirit, friendly nature and ready smile, touched everyone around him. He will be missed beyond measure. His family has planned a memorial service for a later date. To celebrate Eric’s love of music, donations may be made in his name to the Fenton Community Orchestra, PO Box 73, Fenton, MI 48430 or online at Fentonorchestra.org
