Elinor Doe (Furniss Leitkam) Ellis, 99, of Fenton passed on September 12, 2021.
Elinor was born in Washington, DC, on January 12, 1922, to the late Robert and Bernice Furniss. She attended George Washington University in 1941 before moving to Michigan during WWII where she worked for the Dupuis & Ryden Accounting Firm in Flint until 1957. She served under AmeriCorp Vista in 1990, and became a licensed Unity Teacher at Unity of Beaumont, Texas. In 1994, Elinor worked for Nutrition and Services for Seniors in Beaumont and co-founded the volunteer meal delivery program for 1800 meals. She returned to Fenton, Michigan in 2009 where she enjoyed her family and grandchildren.
Always active, Elinor’s life was enriched through traveling, gardening, playing cards with friends, and her appreciation of music. She especially loved singing carols on Christmas Eve and spending summers at the bay.
She is survived by her son Dr. Bruce Leitkam and wife Mary, three daughters Sharon Capobianco and husband Tony, Carol Leitkam and partner Dan Asher, and Deborah Leitkam; her step son Col. Gary Ellis and wife Susan; her sister Barbara Bauer and husband Chris; and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Col. Elmer “Zeke” Ellis, her brother Robert Furniss, and her sister Vesta LaZebnik.
There will be a private service at a later date.
