Duane Charles Lindsay, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at age 90 on September 25, 2024. The younger of two children, Duane was born to Ward M. and Edna (Spell) Lindsay in Flint, MI on August 23, 1934. He grew up in Flint and Fostoria MI. He attended Mayville High School where he was a star athlete, captaining the baseball, basketball, and football teams. He won the Duncan Memorial award as the most outstanding athlete/scholar as a Senior. He also met his wife, Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Hescott, at Mayville High. The two were married in 1954 and moved to Flint in 1958. Together they had five children. Duane was a die maker at the Chevrolet Metal Fabricating plant for 44 years. He made several close friends while there. He was an avid golfer who had made six “holes in one.” He had a fondness for history, particularly of the Civil War era, and he and his children and later his grandchildren visited many a Civil War battlefield together. Woodworking was another passion, and he made many pieces of furniture for both himself and his children, which are cherished. When Duane was a young adult, he was a professional saxophonist with the Bill Porter Orchestra, often playing for dances at the Russellville Ballroom. For the rest of his life, Duane was always happy when playing his saxophone. Duane excelled at being a grandfather. He attended the grandchildren’s concerts, plays, and sporting events, took them putt-putting, played catch, and enjoyed games of all sorts. His grandchildren loved him very much. Duane is survived by his children: Debra (Fred) Huntzicker, Laura (Brad) Sherwin, Ward Lindsay (Robert Davidson), Scott (Julie) Lindsay and Matt (Amy) Lindsay; grandchildren Steven and Kathleen (Matt Boehm) Huntzicker, Susan Sherwin, Julia (Travis) Baes, Rachel (Neil Shah) Sherwin, Jasper and Sebastian Lindsay; great-grandchildren Ramona, Brooklyn, and Blair Baes; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Duane was predeceased by his wife Kathy, to whom he’d been married 54 years, and by his brother Carl. To mark Duane’s passing, the family will receive visitors on the 29th of October from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Temrowski Family Funeral Home in Fenton, MI. Donations may be made in his name to The Old Newsboys of Flint.
