Douglas Ross July “Doug”, age 69 of Grand Blanc, died March 22, 2026 at home in Grand Blanc. He was born September 20, 1956 in Flint, MI to the late Lorne and Norma July.
Doug earned a Bachelor degree in Math from U of M and Masters in Education from CMU.
Doug taught for 34 years at Flint Northern, teaching high school math; everything from basic math to calculus. Doug’s students and colleagues were very important to him. He even won teacher of the year several times. Among his career accomplishments he was instrumental in starting a school for the at risk students in Flint, Accelerated Academic Academy (AAA). Another love of Doug’s was playing and coaching sports. He coached track, cross country, softball, baseball, basketball and football. He was most proud of coaching his son Lance and daughter Tara. As Doug often reminded us he played as a short stop on the 1973 Bentley baseball state championship team.
Doug lived a very full life of fun, friends and family. He enjoyed spending time with his friends on the golf course and was a member of the Elks local 222. He loved music, Detroit Tiger baseball and he was an avid U of M fan and alumni. Doug spent many summer nights attending concerts, arriving in style via limousine, with family and friends and he especially loved Bob Segar. To have known Doug was to have known his kindness, intelligence, generosity, wit and patience. If you were a friend of Doug’s you were a friend for life. Doug got the most enjoyment out of watching his children play sports and then his grandsons play the sport they love, hockey. He loved his grandson’s and was so very proud of them.
He is survived by his wife Pam July of 45 years, daughter Tara (Terry) Pauley of Fenton, son Lance (Sapthalee) July of Raleigh NC, grandsons Trenton and Treyson Pauley. His mother Norma July, mother in law Janice Dias, father in law Dave (Liz) Royce, brother Keith (Sandy) July, sister Teresa (Kurt) Pennell, brother Lorne (Kim) July, baby sister Carla Bedore and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Lorne July, nephew Mark July, uncle Dave Ivey, uncle Rodney July, uncle Gary Wherly, and brother in law David Royce and father in law Ron Dias.
Doug’s family would like to say thank you to all of the friends and family who have offered an out pouring of love and support throughout his journey. A special thank you to Tom and Colleen Kalanquin, Tim and Linda Gilbert and Kelly Walker. And thank you to Doreen and Tiffany for helping with Doug’s medical care.
In lieu of gifts or flowers the family would like to request donations be made to Michigan Parkinson Foundation or The Michael J Fox Foundation in Doug’s name.
Doug will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The memories that he created and lessons he taught will continue to live on in the hearts of all who love him. Though his feels like a life too short for all of those whose lives he touched we will be forever grateful for having known him.
A private celebration of life to be set by family at a later date.
