David Mark Obituary

David Roger Mark, age 78, of Flint, MI, passed away on April 22, 2024, in Fenton, MI. Dave was born on July 19, 1945, in Flint, MI. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Dave is survived by his wife Bonny, brother Douglas (Linda) Mark, daughters Amy (Jim) Cunningham, Andrea (Greg) Vinstra, Annette (Greg) Hajec, and Cynda (Derek) Parks, as well as his grandchildren Hailey (Berto), Skylar, Hayden, Dru, Mason, Trey, Morgan, and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Sammon, father Bela Mark, brother Dale Mark, and nephew Jim Mark.

Dave was a dedicated Army veteran who served in the Signal Corp during the Vietnam War, where he achieved the rank of Specialist 5 and received a Bronze Star among other medals of recognition. In his career, Dave was a skilled Tool and Die Maker and Machine Builder at General Motors/AC Spark Plug. He grew his love of computers into a successful family business. A licensed builder, he also built the family home. Dave was a voracious reader and lifelong learner.  In the words of his loved ones, "Dave was google, before there was Google."  Dave was known not only for his amazing ability to fix just about anything and enjoyed helping others with their DIY projects.  Not only would he donate his time and talent, but he would also then thank the recipient of the perfectly completed project for the experience and exclaim, "that was fun!" His hobbies included building and racing model airplanes with his friend Barry Tippett, participating in control line speed contests.   Also collecting rocks and geodes, collecting hit or miss engines, lighting off fireworks, coin collecting, and traveling.  He loved his cats and had a need for speed.

Dave's family and friends remember him as someone who always found joy in spending time with his grandchildren; especially sharing their mutual love of McDonald’s.  He was a very dedicated and loving husband, married to his wife Bonny for almost 50 years. He instilled a love of nature and wonder of the outdoors in his family, whether looking up to the stars or enjoying the return of the sandhill cranes in his own yard. Dave's legacy of kindness, generosity, and love for learning will be cherished by all who know him.

The family would like to thank the Medical Team Hospice staff as well as the staff at Lockwood of Fenton for the excellent care they provided to Dave; treating him with respect, kindness, and dignity to always ensure his comfort.

Dave will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery, in a private ceremony.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Adopt-A Pet Fenton.
