Carl Sylvester Hammond, age 91 passed away Jan 31,2026. He was born in Flushing, Mi on June 13, 1934, and moved to Fenton with his wife Margery in 1955 where they raised their family and became involved in many community and church activities.
Carl enjoyed his job as a Fenton mail carrier for over 36 years and always said the best part of his work were the people he served and came to know. He was very touched to be remembered through the years by many of them and especially by the children who remembered him from so long ago.
He also served on the Fenton City Council for over 27 years, as Mayor for two terms from 1985 to 1989, as well as serving on many Committees and Boards.
Carl loved spending time at their Mio cabin where he enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Ken. And he was one of the Detroit Tigers biggest fans. One of the greatest moments of his life was throwing out the first pitch at Comerica Park when he was 82. He will be missed by many.
Carl was preceded in his death by his dear wife Margery. He is survived by his two daughters, Teresa (Leo) Doan, and Marcia (Robert) Cummings; beloved grandson John Ekleberry (Marcy Orr) and his sweet great granddaughter Maggie Mae Ekleberry.
A private service will be held for immediate family only.
